Date: Mon, 21 Jul 2008 From: Janssen, Carolyne Subject: Denver show My husband and I saw Dan with the Lickmen and Lickettes on July 18th in Denver at the Soiled Dove Underground. I first saw Dan in 1971 in Boulder at Tulagi at the ripe age of 17, and have been a fan ever since. As always, Dan surrounds himself with incredibly talented musicians. Trying to watch them all at once is impossible, but exactly what one wants to do - I wanted to keep my eye on each musician all the time. Let's not mince words: Dan's still got it! All his new songs have the same enduring quality as the old favorites. His lyrics are clear and meaningful, witty and complex, and have the added bonus of irony and/or sarcasm. I can't listen to Dan without allowing I'm at worst the butt of the joke but acceptant of that assignment, or at best, in on Dan's cutting humor with his usual sly wink of acknowledgment.
